The Mystic River Chorale welcomes singers, from throughout the area, to audition!
In-person auditions for this Season may be scheduled by appointment. Please e-mail the Chorus Manager to let us know you're interested!
Both new members and former members who were not regular dues-paying members, in the past year, must plan to sing for the Artistic Director for purposes of range, part assignment, and standing position.
Auditions are a straightforward and non-threatening evaluation of musicality, voice quality, range, and musical literacy. New singers may choose to bring in a song they feel flatters their voice (art song, aria, etc.); or they may use a well-known tune to help us assess and place their voice. Popular choices include "Amazing Grace", "America the Beautiful", hymns, carols, or folk songs. If you choose to bring your own selection, please bring an extra copy.
To support safe and social in-door group singing, the Chorale's policy in response to COVID is aligned with current COVID guidelines (and restrictions) published by local, state, and federal resources. Please be advised our policy evolves as current guidelines evolve. For example, the Chorale may require all participants to wear a face mask and may include a request for proof of vaccination. Members will be advised proactively of updates to our policy.
Membership in the Mystic River Chorale is based on the needs of the Chorale and is at the discretion of the Artistic Director and Board. Availability of places in the appropriate choral part and section, group choral balance, and the size of the Chorale as set by the Board all factor into accepting singers into the Chorale.
Rehearsals & venues
The Chorale rehearses Monday evenings from 6:45 PM to 9:30 PM (Chamber Singers 8:45 PM - 9:30 PM) during the months of September to early June, at the Union Baptist Church, in downtown Mystic, Connecticut (119 High Street. Enter within the main sanctuary).
The Mystic River Chorale requires a commitment from members to attend nearly every rehearsal, and are provided a guide on Chorale bylaws. For example, members are responsible to pay annual dues, cover the cost of music, wear specific concert attire, and expected to participate in fundraising and in ticket sales.
We perform at various venues, including Harkness Memorial Chapel on the Connecticut College campus, Mystic Congregational Church and St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer R.C. Church in Groton Long Point. We hope to expand our venue locations to include other local area churches and performance spaces.
