David Gilliland

Accompanist

The Chorale is excited to have David Gilliland as our new Accompanist starting September 2021 for our 38th Season. David is a versatile pianist, comfortable performing in mediums ranging from classical to jazz, and from opera to musical theater. He frequently performs with a diverse array of vocalists, instrumentalists, and choral ensembles across the United States. Professional highlights include collaborations with the Sphinx Competition, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, and as a convention pianist for the National Flute Association.

 

In 2019, David joined the faculty of the University of Rhode Island Department of Music. Previously, he had served on the faculties of Albion College, the University of Michigan, and Davidson College, and for six years was the Collaborative Piano Coordinator for the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp. Commercial recordings of his include the complete wind compositions of Henri Dutilleux, 20th Century Czech Flute Sonatas with Orlando Cela, and the low brass works of Robert Denham with Ilan Morgenstern. David holds graduate degrees in collaborative piano from the Eastman School of Music (M.M.) and the University of Minnesota (D.M.A.); his primary teachers include Jean Barr, Margo Garrett and Karl Paulnack.

Outside of music, David is an avid escape room enthusiast and enjoys spending time with his wife, Beth, and daughter, Morgan.
